Make the jump from internal guru to consultant?

    Locked

    by robo_dev ·

I’ve been around the block and have a whole boatload of experience, certifications, and even publications.

At this point in my career, to make what I’m worth, I need to either go for a high-level manager/director position, or apply my expertise as a hired-gun in a consulting firm.

Anybody here made the jump from being ‘on the inside’ to the wonderful and exciting world of consulting?

I am both excited and terrified….I am well paid where I am, and the position is stable, zero travel, low stress….but not challenging enough.

Several consulting firms are now knocking on my door offering good salaries plus great bonuses to go out there and keep their customers happy.

I can do the whole powerpoint-happy-face thing with respect to communication and presentation, but am not super excited about the ‘selling’ part. Am I crazy?
