Making SATA hot swap

By jacostanzi ·
I have an internal SATA enclosure connected to the mobo (Dell) running XP Pro (64). Is there anyway to make it hot swap. I found nothing on Dell site. Only thing I found was a hot swap utility. Hot swap works when connected to PCI card.

Some of the newer servers have hot swappable SATA Controllers.
A Google search for SATA hot swap controllers returns some good info.

Also SATA Hot Swap HDD are a different Drive Family

They are called SAS Drives and are considerably more expensive than a Simple SATA Drive.

So the easy answer to your question is No You can not but you can add a Controller Card and SAS drives to achieve this result. You'll probably need to change the Drive Bays to support SAS as well.
