Aloha Andy,
You don’t necessarily need an MCNE-specific book for this. Networking is networking regardless of NOS – some of the MCSE Networking Essentials books might suit you well.
Also, Doug Comer’s books (TCP/IP and Computer Networks) are generally quite good.
One other suggestion – poke around on the Internet for some free resources. Cisco (http://www.cisco.com) has some excellent reference works on their site as does 3COM (http://www.3com.com) on the subjects of networking, routing, TCP/IP, etc.
Hope that helps!
Aloha,

However what you can do is use the trainers material from Novell, it are pdf files and the have the white book and some aditional tips.Good luck,
and I mightbe able to get them.
Let me know,

The exam wasn’t difficult as far as content and complexity, but the material that you’re tested on is specific to the course. My route was the coursebook, but my employer made that purchase. If the exam hasn’t changed since 1997, I can give you anideaof the topics that are covered.
Another option is the CBTs that Novell provides. They used to have a section on their site that CNE/MCNEs could download up to 6 per year for free. Several of them were related to that exam.
Good luck.-

Hi Andy,
I used self test software from self test software at http://www.selftestsoftware.com/
Just tell them what electives you need and they will get the software to you. That is the only material I studied from.
Hope this helps,

You might try the http://www.certify.com CNE Quizer download. There are a number of Novell tests covered and you can download it and try a few questions from any of their quizes to see which one may help you before buying. The quizer is inexpensive and you get a discount if you buy a couple at a time. I read several forum reviews from people who used this to pass a variety of Novell tests.

Andy,
Get a “Demo” copy of NetWare and build yourself a 2-3 node network. Along with just about any reasonable study guide, you will learn enough to pass this test. The rest of the answers provide many good titles and guides.
Good Luck!!Steve Martin CNE/MCP

Hi Andy
I also used Novell’s white books to prepare for my MCNE. However, due to my company’s relations with distributers like TechData and or Ingram Micro, I was able to pick these books relatively inexpensively. If you have access to these companies, it may be a good avenue to persue. As you may know, Novell bases all their exams on these “white textbooks”. Is the best way to prepare for their test.Good Luck
