We have launched blogging functionality for TechRepublic members.

You can get started here:

If you have an existing blog, you can import it into your TechRepublic blog using your external blog's RSS feed. This eliminates the need to post things twice.

Other features in this first phase of blogs include: tags, comments, editing posts and deleting posts. Upcoming features include Blog Posts from My Contacts and RSS feeds.

Here are some TR blogs to get you started:

Trivial Pursuits:

Let us know what you think.

More TR crack

by Oz_Media In reply to This is all part of an in ...

I've heard TR equated to internet crack before (may have even been myself)but at least we can legalize it in more than one country.

and the ride will continue to be free.

The community team is responsible for growing the number of members using community features (discussions, tq&a, blogs, contacts, profiles, etc) and keeping them as active as possible.

We're hoping blogs will help. So are you starting one?

Time will tell.

by deepsand In reply to Absolutely

A the moment, I've little enough time to eat; which is probably for the better, as otherwise I'd have to try to find time for dealing with the by-products.

I'll be exploring the idea, with an eye toward the future.

by jck In reply to Member blogs are live

you get to know more about me here than my coworkers do in meetings and lunches.

I know the term Blog comes from "weB LOG" but..

by TomSal In reply to Member blogs are live

What is a blog really? What do you write about on a blog? What is its purpose?

It's really a journal

by sMoRTy71 In reply to I know the term Blog come ...

Most blogs are just a journal of what is going on in the blogger's life at that moment.

On TR, we're hoping that our members will share their IT-related experiences. So if you're working on a big project, you could blog about that. Or if you're interested in a certain technology, you could post items related to that. Others who are going through a similar thing will find those things helpful.

My blog, which is a bit off target for our members probably, is mostly about personal technology (gadgets, electronics), home theater, pop culture and a little social networking stuff sprinkled in.

So basically, there are no rules. We just hope it provides our members with a different outlet for posting things that don't fit in discussions and tech q&a.

Give it try. You can't go wrong.

Yea I've heard that before

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to It's really a journal

The last shrink I saw told me that there where no wrong answers to their questions and I had to fight like hell to escape from them as well.

God only knows what would happen to me if they found out I was doing work for free just to work off a debt for asking a question I wasn't really interested in and even worse looking like I'll be doing Government work again.

To share ideas, opinions, "wisdom," etc...

by Jay Garmon Contributor In reply to I know the term Blog come ...

For me personally, my blog will help me refine my internal monologue, which is a fancy way of saying get my thoughts and ideas in order. It has the added bonus of exposing those thoughts (potentially) to a larger audience, turning the whole Internet into a sounding board for my ideas.

Moreover, as opposed to an individual thread, which is all about one subject (the initial post), and which becomes disposable as soon as the thread becomes unpopular, a blog is centered around you, and has some longevity and continuity inherent to its design. This is a fancy way of saying its all about you.

Blogs are counterbalance to discussions; the latter is all about the subject as filtered through different perspectives, the former is all about one perspective as it filters different subjects.

Plus, blogs are a great place to save answers to those Tech Q&A questions you have to answer over and over again. Just point to the blog entry with the patented answer.

great explanation

by apotheon In reply to To share ideas, opinions, ...

That's a great explanation of a blog. It's sorta specific to TR, the way you wrote it, but it doesn't take much to be able to see how it applies to blogs in general.

I guess that all I'd add to that is what I already posted in my own first TR blog post, which was about blogging (among other things) anyway.

Jay perhaps you

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to To share ideas, opinions, ...

Could tell this to IT_Lobo.

God I've just had a nasty thought that means that Mr Miami, IPirate and ProteusX will all have a clear run at posting their ideas in a manner that can not be challenged.

PLEASE take it away now before any un-doable harm is done!
