If the above answers don't fit, how about...

If your are editing files from a floppy disk, don't. While this is convenient for transporting files among computers, Word and other Office apps can be unhappy editing files on floppies, the reason being that by default they will create their temporary files in the location of the original file.

If this is not the case, are you using NT, and NTFS? If so, check file permissions on the directories you are using to be sure you have RWXD permissions (or have an Admin check that if you are not one).

The default page setup is set on the "Normal.Dot". You can start by deleting that file.
The file will automatically recreate when you start msword.

If this still failed, you can use another way around. Set the page setup in another PC and makeit default; then copy the "normal.dot" to the pc with the problem.

Yes, I have this issue on a daily basis at work. You need the SR2 patch. I am guessing you have suffiecient memory. I am guessing your running Office 97??? (That is what we have) I would e-mail you the sr2 for it but it is 24 megs.

First off we need to know how much RAM and hard drive space there is? RAM should be at least 64MB nowadays. If these have plenty of memory then the next issue is hard drive has bad cluster or Word or Windows has a corrupted file. Next, have you loaded Office Service Packs, SR1 & SR2B? Even though you have reinstalled Office 3 times did you do it the correect way using the Office cleaner/remover and regclean from Microsoft? After unisntalling Office there is a file called eraser97 that can be downloaded from Micorosoft Office Updates. Or on some of the Office CD's there is the ofcln97.exe file which can be ran also. Then download regclean from Microsoft and run it. Then reboot the machie so it can remove any orphan files. Then install office. Hope this helps.
