Mouse right-clicks & Pop-up Menus

By kevin.obrien ·
Is there a way in W95OSR2 to disable the right mouse click's ability to bring up a pop-up menu? I need to restrict the user's ability to browse past the normal security settings in the policies by right clicking the MY Computer icon, clicking on New| Shortcut, and then getting into the Windows folder on the C: drive (a no-no for a register user).

TECHNET describes how to create "user accounts" on a 95/98 machine, where you can restrict different users with different restrictions using POLEDIT. There is also a very dangerous utility called the Zero Administration Kit (ZAK) for Win95 that candisable pretty much anything you can think of. You can find it at http://www.microsoft.com/Windows95/downloads/contents/WUAdminTools/S_WUManagementTools/W95ZAK/Default.asp. If you DO decide to use it, BE SURE you are on a "test computer" and you have created a back-door for yourself.

POLEDIT doesn't cover what we needed to do, but if ZAK is a freebie from MS, it might be what we need. Thanks.

One possible solution, albeit possibly "odd", would be to install WindowBlinds (www.windowblinds.net). Although the software is used to skin Windows (kinda like skinning Winamp et all, but **Windows**). Advantages if you have a bit of time being that you can skin different applications differently -- and one thing you can do is to disable right-clicking. It'd be a bit of work, but you can do some really cool things beyond your goal of locking everything down. :-)

Again, we're trying to accomplish this with as little expenditure as possible. anything we do must be replicated to eight other parks, each with upwards of 100 PCs being used for this purpose. This gets expensive, and unfortunately we also have corporate policies regarding the use of shareware, or other utilities in that they must all be tested first in the corporate offices. Thanks for the information.
