MS Small Business Srvr install problems

By BBD_ITAdmin ·
We are setting up a new Dell PowerEdge 1400 SC with Microsoft Small Business Sever OS. We first decided that we did not like the partitioning as done by Dell. So we reinstalled the OS, using the Dell OpenManage CD (the only way it would reinstall). This installed W2K Server (not SBS). After first reboot it asked for W2K disc for updates. I put in our W2K Pro disc. The OpenManage and disc1 of the SBS install media would not work to continue with the windows update. The windows update completed and the machine rebooted once more. After the reboot I was instructed to put in disc1 of the SBS install media to complete the install of SBS. I did this but got the following error message.

"This verion cannot upgrade the installed version of Microsoft Small Buisness Server".

With this error I cannot complete the SBS install. So the server is just at the W2K Server stage. This means that the client add-on I have will not work because it is for adding client licenses for SBS, not Server alone.

Does anyone have an idea of what I need to do to complete the SBS install?
