My laptop is beeping on start up?

    Hi team,

I’ve just googled the internet about laptops/pc beeping on start up.

I came across some sites said that you will need to remove your RAM and place it back again and it will stop the beeps. So I did, and it works but I try again (turn the PC off and on again) to see if the beeps won’t come on again…but it went on again.

I don’t know really what’s the problem. It works fine after trying (can access the desktop – no beeping) but I am assuming I might need a RAM. At the moment I’ve got 1GB and I am thinking if it’s the RAM. otherwise if it is then I will buy a 2GB RAM…

Really how do you check if it’s not the RAM or the HD or the Motherboard or etc…etc…etc.

How do I identify the problem physically. That’s what I like to know too.

    God bless my IT guru.

    Many thanks.

    Appreciate the help.

The Beeps are a BIOS Error Code

What you should have Googled is Beep Codes as these are specific to the BIOS Maker and sometimes the Make & Model of the NB.

One Set of Beeps do not cover every Computer and there are different Beeps telling you that different things are wrong. The answer that you got may work but it just as likely may not work as different systems have different Beep Codes and that code may have been trying to tell you that the RAM was Bad or it equally could have been trying to tell you that the Keyboard wasn’t present or anything else for that matter.

The way to find out what the Beeps actually mean is to look at the User Manual for your NB under Beep Codes or if they are not listed there a generic By BIOS Make Beep Code is available here

      http://www.biosman .com/bios_support.html

Also as to if you do need to replace the RAM Module what you use here all depends on the Make & Model of your Computer or M’Board. Not all M’Boards can carry 2 GIG Modules and some can carry much bigger RAM Modules. Here this is also dependent on the BIOS in use as to how much RAM it can Map and actually use.

So if you do need to replace the RAM you need to buy RAM that is suitable for your unit. You can look at a RAM Makers Web Site to see what they recommend or at your System Makers Web Site to see what they list as Optional Extras.

Remove the space between the Domain Name and the .com for a working link. 😉
