Although i have changed the graphics card several times, the monitor will not switch on, i have checked the motherboard manuals, bus speed of ram and cpu, i have used the AGP slot and PCI slots and none will turn the monitor on. the base unit starts up fine, the lights flash the hard drive humms but no screen, is it a faulty motherboard or have i missed something?

one way to know for sure is test a 2nd monitor…

it would be highly misappropriate to tell you that you have a bad monitor. Borrow one from a friend if you do not have one.

Did you check your monitor connector for broken pins? Did the graphic cards were properly seated? It may be several ailments since you made so many changes. What kind of monitor are you using? What motherboard is installed? Give me more info.

This may sound daft If your monitor power indicator is off. Check the plug I’ve had several where the plug apears to be in but is not in far enough.

I ran into this problem on a system a few years ago. There was a bios setting that caused the problem. I had to reset the bios to bring it back. Alternately, you could flash the bios to set it to defaults as well.

I think you need to just buy a monitor. The problem is on one of the IC or a relay switch and every model has different IC to do the job.

Does the MB have onboard video? Try plugging the monotor to that. If it works there then you will have to disable the onboard video (integrated peripherals in BIOS) to use the video card.

      First question
does the monitor light up at all ?.
does it go orange but not change to green ?
If no lights try another monitor.
I recently (last 2 days) had a similar problem.
Monitor light would not change to green.
      everything seemed to be ok
It was the main processor, changed it everything ok.

Clear the CMOS settings by shorting pins 2&3. They are usually located near the MB battery. Also remove the battery for a few seconds and then replace the jumper on pins 1&2. This will restore the factory defaults. This may clear up the issue. If it does, you’ll be able to go into the BIOS and change them to your liking.
