My Win98 runs fine

By rbmooney ·
If my Win98 2nd edition runs fine why should I--or anyone else for that matter--consider buying Microsoft's ME edition? I simply boost my hardware memory and power when I want any improvements.

Congratulations! Maybe you should start a column to tell people just how you managed to get win98 to work fine! 8o)
As for upgrading, the best thing to do is wait til they've got at least a few of the bugs ironed out of later versions.

It isn't fair for me to say this answer didn't help me but the options are limited as per Techrepublic's layout. Thanks for your good effort.

Windows ME is not a very good program. The second edition even has problems. Don't upgrade, keep things as they are.

Buy Win2000 and read this http://hardware.earthweb.com/prodop/article/0,,12099_867141,00.html
It's an older article but has a lot of good points. I have 2000 with IE6. With a few registry hacks it screams and is very stable. (for being non-linux) I haven't had any trouble with my old programs that I had on 98 runinng in 2K and it will be a long time before I remove It from my PC for anything else.

Stick with Win 98 se, unless you have un-productive time to kill.

This appeared to be a simple question but it wasn't. I found the answers on-target and similar in many respects, but they were all helpful and encouraging in several ways. Thanks very much to everyone who wrote in. I think SOULRIDER had the most appropriate answer and believe he should get the points.
