Need help with pptp on Win2k PLEASE!

By jdclyde ·

I have a TQ&A open on this, but am running out of time to get this resolved.

I have a system with a clean install of Win2k Pro SP4, roll up, and all other patches are applied.

I NEED to setup a pptp connection, but when I go into he new connection wizard, it asks me to supply the modem information. (on cable modem) I have to select "cancel" three times before it takes me to the next step.

From there, the option for selecting VPN is grayed out.

I have made sure that Telephony and Remote connections manager are running.

The user has administrative rights.

I have disabled the modem, so it shouldn't even look at that, just the ethernet connection.

I have googled the he11 out of this, and nothing explains why the VPN option is grayed out.

I have gone into the network properties and looked to install protocols, but didn't see anything there for vpn.

Got home and internet was dead

by jdclyde In reply to Need help with pptp on Wi ...

There was a problem with the line from my very soon to be ex-internet provider, SBC/AT&T. That was the load that shattered the camels back, and as of the end of the month, I am history!

Anyways, how I "fixed" the system.

I went into IE and the Connection settings. I created a connection in the area that you usually can setup a dialup, and deterimine if it is to manually dial or not.

I setup one like that, selected the TCP/IP, and VPN and saved. Sure this didn't work, but when I went back into the create new connection, the VPN option was no longer grayed out.

I know, this should not have fixed the system.
I know that this is stupid.
I know that I pissed around with this for three days, all because it would not work.

Thanks for stepping up and giving me a hand with this!
