Need to create com 3 port.

My modem is on com port 3 and Windows 98 will not detect my modem. How do I create a com port so my modem will be read.

I presume that you have a PCI modem 56k.
Step1.Go to Bios and deactivate the COM2.The mouse is on Com1 at adress 3F8/IRQ4 in BIOS.
Step2. In BIOS ,in PNP BIOS, put at OS INSTALLED option YES, the pheriphericals put to AUTO(just under OS INSTALED).
Step3. In Bios in Power Manager you have the option: MODEM USE IRQ : 3 (YOU have MODEM USE IRQ 3 - for com2 modem)
Step4. Enter in Windows, and remove any modems,and drivers you have, from Control Panel, Modems, Remove.
Step5. Restart Windows.
Step6. Put the drivers what windows ask, for modem, then after instalation, reboot.When windows start again, you can check in control panel, at Modems, to see that is on Com2, and is comunicating.
