Need URL to web site with embedded .PDF

By CharlieSpencer ·
I'm troubleshooting a problem for a user. Our payroll is managed by a contractor. They make pay statements available on line. The .PDF statement is supposed to appear beneath a few lines of heading data. This user gets the heading lines (presumably HTML) but instead of a pay statement he gets the outline of the document with the ever-popular red 'X' in the upper left corner.

He doesn't have problems opening .PDF files directly, or .PDFs stored in SharePoint. He's fine if he uses another machine, so there's nothing wrong with this account with the contractor. I've uninstalled Adobe Reader and reinstalled it; that's the only Adobe or .PDF application he has installed.

Does anyone know of a public web site with a .PDF included that I can try to view as a test?

Thanks.

I've been experimenting

and have discovered something that might help you. Can you go to that URL and then view the source for that page? We are looking for the code that embeds the .pdf and it will look something like this:
"<embed src="622809.pdf"
type="application/x-pdf"
width="500" height="400"/>"

it might also begin with an "<object" tag. What I'm looking for is this part:
type="application/x-pdf"

Thanks, but problem solved.

We downloaded the new Adobe Reader X (which I assume indicates version 10) and that fixed the problem.

Thanks everyone, but no thumbs here.
