NetWare Admin & Start Menu Applications

By McIntyreM ·
When you go into NetWare Admin you can tell it what applications are available and where to put them. I have given a few applications to a group of users and placed them in the start menu. NetWare automatically creates a start menu group at the top of the menu, in which, these items are located. However, when the users click on these items nothing happens. This just started ocurring recently. Previously they worked. I thought it happened because I updated the client from 3.1 to 3.3.

Have you tried regenerating the application GUID (Tools, Application Tools, Generate new GUIDs) and letting the app re-distribute?

Only a thought.

These programs really are shortcuts to applications already successfully installed on the computer. I have deleted the application from NWAdmin and recreated it, to the same result.

If the application is installed on the PC? have you tried browsing to the exe file in Explorer and running it from there (or the Start,Run...command)?
If the app is installed on the PC already, then the menu item is only a short-cut,and it isn't likely to be a ZEN problem.
If the exe file doesn't work directly, have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the application itself?

Yes, these programs are installed on the computer. Yes, they are fully funtional in the conventional ways of opening them. I use these shortcuts in the NW StartMenu, to limit access. I am aware that they can be still accessed by other means, but as long as I can control the access, it keeps things in hand. The only way that these shortcuts don't work, is by left-clicking on them. You can still right click on them and do the following options successfully: Open, Verify, Copy, Properties..., and Sort by Name.

Now this is getting VERY wierd! If you can rightclick and open, then that is the same functionality as leftclicking (or should be).
Let's start with the obvious - mouse setting, replace mouse. You've already rebuilt the PC.
Can you create new menu items which work successfully? If so, try deleting the current ones and creating new ones to replace them.
After this, I think I am running out of sensible ideas, so DSRepair?
Sorry that I can't be any more help (I don't have the same problem on my 3.3 client workstations, and I can't do anything to force it to behave like this). Like I said, wierd!

I've done both of the obions that you have mentioned. Recreating the shortcuts and doing a DSRepair, did not solve my problem. For now, I'll settle with putting the shortcuts back in the regular Start Menu, as well as having them in the menu created by NWAdmin. Thanks anyway for your concern and help.
