Network Chat Program

By BeBoo ·
I was wondering if anyone used a chat program to allow the users to chat with each other in the network and did not allow the user to chat with someone outside out network. For instance, AIM would NOT be an option. When our users had Macs, we used iChat's Rendevous (or Bonjour). We are now all using Citrix and lost the ability to use iChat. Any ideas?

I used a program called Meet Gate for a small business for internal chatting.

I don't remember

by BeBoo In reply to Netmeeting

...seeing it on Server 2003... Most of our users connect to a desktop session on the Citrix server. Any ideas as to where? I remember there being a folder called "Microsoft NetMeeting" in the Program Files folder on XP (i believe) but I don't see it on Server 2003. Add/Remove Windows Components, maybe?

Click on start-----run----type the following in the run box---conf---hit ok.
This will start netmeeting up on the server.

We use

Lotus Sametime, probably only because we've been using it forever, and once upon a time we were a Notes shop.

We haven't upgraded in a long time, I'm sure the newer versions are more stable and have more features. But it does the job and we have thousands of users.

Sounds good, but...

by BeBoo In reply to We use

I need something free or very cheap. I don't need anything special like file transfers, pictures or anything... just strictly chat...

What about Windows Messenger? Do you need a "passport" to use it or does it have a "local network" setting or something along those lines?

Great product....You can also setup your own MSN chat service (as I understand it) with MS collaboration tools

Not a MS product.
just do an internet search on it. Its not free but no huge bucko's either. We use it corporate wide and it works perfect.

Set up an internal Jabber server and you can configure and use clients such as Gaim or Spark.
