New Build Unable to Read SATA Drives

By Sephiroth__VII ·
I just built a new computer, and it being my first ever, I was thrilled when I turned it on without anything catching on fire. I got into the BIOS fine, but i noticed in there, it will not reconize any of my SATA drives, (Two ASUS optical and Two Western Digital Raptor HDD)And of course from there I really can't do much. Im unable to install any OS, and when I contact the MB manufacture (MSI) all they said was to make sure they drives were ATI SATA compatible, which tells me nothing, because I went all over the two drives websites and there was nothing about an ATI SATA compatible drive. I even looked around on the web to find any drive that said it was ATI SATA compatible without much success. Any ideas. (BTW i already updated BIOS, made sure the SATA conection is solid, made sure the Disk drives were not defected and yes they are plugged into the power.) Thanks

Where the optical drives recognised

after the BIOS update?

Do you intend to run a RAID?

If so, down load the RAID drivers from, boot from the Optical, and press F6 when prompted.

Some headway

by Sephiroth__VII In reply to Where the optical drives ...

I do plan to run a raid, and last night I moved my HDD to my SATA ports 5 & 6, which I guess are Promise T3 (not sure what that is but i believe they are set up for RAIDS) and was able to prompt a screen before entering the BIOS and set up a raid without much trouble. But this does not solve my problem, because I cannot get my optical drives to be read by the other 4 SATA ports, and the T3 Promise ports don't read them either. And w/o my Optical drives being read, I cannot boot from a CD or even install windows.
