New Hard Drive--Partition or not?

By rwpank ·
I am installing a new 750gig HD with Vista Home Premium in a new computer(DIY). What is the consenus these days on partitioning, is it wise, and will Vista install process accomplish it?
Thanks, Ron

Logical Drives

by TheChas In reply to New Hard Drive--Partition ...

Of course, you need to create at least a single partition in order to use your drive.

I believe the Vista installer still allows you to create a boot partition of the size you desire, and then partition the rest of the drive later.

I myself like to use multiple logical drives.

That way, I can store my data files separate from my OS and can easily back up just my files.

Here is a good article on the ins and outs of multiple partitions:

I understand the need for a partition, but you answered one of the questions--thanks.
