No network login dialogue on startup

By prelph ·
I have a small home network, Win98SE and Win95. The Win98SE box refuses to offer the Login dialogue on startup, logging on as Default. I have to then logoff to get the dialogue, which then works ok. I have TCP/IP and Netbeui installed. I have previously deleted the .pwl file and reinstalled networking.

It is because no password was selected in the logon ti windows network. The easiest way I have found to resolve this is to remove the nic-card. Restart windows without the card, shut down, reinsleall the nic and reload the nic-drivers.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the network card, and Windows Networking, both several times, and used an actual password instead of a blank, and the result is a success, ie. it now prompts for a password. Initially 'Autologon' was set to '00' sothat wasn't the problem, whether accessed through Tweakui or Regedit. As with most of these problems, the solution is not straightforward. I think that the real solution is Linux, but that's another story.

If he has already removed tcp/ip and pwls then extracted a winsock and it not work, then removing and re-installing the network card will not help.
Answer # 3 will however do the trick. Windows 98 is Kinda funky sometimes, and only editing the registry will fix the Network Logon issue.
