No sound coming from speakers
Lockedby nanoteki · about 19 years, 9 months ago
I have recently reinstalled Windows XP Pro due to spyware that corrupted my system’s dir. I have an integrated sound with my Sony Vaio’s motherboard. I have attempted to reinstall the original and updated sound drivers for the system, but I continue to have problems with the installed drivers. I suspect that there are conflicting audio control drivers that were installed with Windows XP as a default. I have attempted to resolve this by attempting to disable or uninstall the suspected drivers through the device manager, but it does not have an uninstall or diable function for these drivers. I was wondering if anyone could help resolve this or if it is recommended that I buy a third party sound card and disable the integrated sound card through BIOS.

Go to control panel, then “sounds and audio devices”, then the “audio” tab, check if the default device is the Sony integrated sound. If you haven’t, do a windows upgrade. If you still don’t have sounds, just unintall the Sony drivers you installed. Then install the sound device and let windows scan for drivers, since they may be compatible with the Sony’s integrated sound.

I have had similar problems and I have to say that XP has the
most contrived audio configuration of any OS ever. Here are
steps I have taken that may or may not be helpful as the amount
of variables are insane. Barring this I can only say call tech
support, sometimes ya just have to. But then again who do you
call? Microsoft? The MB manufacturer? The speaker company?First set everything to default, erase anything sound related you
can. check all three XP graphic eq’s for any muted sliders. check
any apps installed with your video card for audio settings (these
willl often overide OS settings), you can try doing a search for
midi or something audio generic just to see if theres anything
you don’t know about about on your system or even with your
players like real and winamp. Then shut down, unplug and plug
in everything related to the audio, reset the bios. reboot, then
run the audio
wizard from withing XP. Then when it stilll isnt working cry drink
some more coffee, go out and buy a mac, it’s just a volume up
and down slider in OS X.-

Thank you all for your input. I have found a solution. The easiest way that I figured how to solve the problem is to install a seperate third party sound card (eg. creative sound blaster).(I tried and worked)
The second solution (but did not try) purchase the original vendor systems cd and make a clean install after reformatting the corrupted drive(s). I believe this is due in part because the edition of XP pro I purchased after loosing the original Sony Vaio disks, Windows XP(Home or Pro) installs its generic drivers and makes it nearly impossible to remove and install the proper integrated sound drivers. If in case you wish to try the 2nd option because you dont have the brand system disk check your manufacturers website or contact by e-mail or phone as your specific model needs.(Sony Vaio original parts site http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/web/index.jsp).
The third and perhaps least costly solution (This is just theory based upon my own educated ideas) is to “know someone who is ” or become very well acquaited with command prompt, safe mode, and dos commands that allow specific alterations to the system in my case deleting the generic sound drivers and replace with the original(e-mail me if you know where I can learn this skill or know how to make this specific alteration with instructions included for dummies like me). Since as noted before the Microsoft XP(home or Pro) generic drivers wont uninstall because the system wont let you. To all who read this
feel free to e-mail with any questions or input regarding integrated sound systems or alterations. Also please share this
with others who might be having a similar issue.
P.S Sorry to J. P Rowlings if you read this I lost your e-mail because my e-mail account was cancelled for pro-longed abscence and all e-mails were deleted once I was able to get back the same account. So you can e-mail me again regarding any questions about the sound card or no sound problem you had or still have. Sorry if I got your name wrong but after a few months I’am going purely on memory of the e-mail.

DO THE FOLLOWING
1 CONNECT SPEAKER TO ANY OTHER AUDIO DEVICE(WALKMAN) AND CONFIRM IT IS OK
2 NEXT CHECK THE SETTINGS OF SOFTWARE YOU ARE USING TO HEAR MUSIC TO SEE IF SOUND IS MUTED
3 GO TO PROGRAMS–ACCESORIES–COMMUNICATION–VOLUME CONTROL AND CHECK MUTE CONDITIONS
4 I DONT THINK THERE IS ANY DRIVER PROBLEM
IN CASE ,YOU INSTALL LATEST DRIVERS
HOPE YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED-
