ABC News is talking about poverty in America being greater than previously thought. Anyone here, besides me, ever live in poverty?

I hope Boxy sees this.

I have no idea of what to do to stop powdery white mold.

Sounds like mildew.

by boxfiddler Moderator In reply to Yeah

Wash the foliage with a mild concoction of dish soap and water. It won't hurt if a little bit of the concoction gets into the soil.
If that doesn't work, it's not mildew. A pic would help, in that case.

Take a leaf to a local nursery

by jdclyde In reply to Sounds like mildew.

and they will not only tell you what it is, but how to get rid of it.

Aren't a lot of the molds like that from over watering? (VERY limited exposure to all this, but my sis worked in a nursery for a few years, so was accidentally learning some of it.

potting soils can be contaminated. Also, mildew travels easily from one thing to another. If an outdoor plant has mildew, it's easy for an indoor plant that's kept outside in summer to catch it.

i've never had that happen before

but here's a read ...the worst my houseplants suffer from is lack of water lol...they haven't up and caved on me yet though...and i've found sometimes if i starve my christmas castus for a bit, it will bloom within a few weeks after i take care of it again...and it sits quite nicely in the southwest sun, don't ask me why, but it loves it there.

My mother will be so proud. She still can't believe that I haven't killed them yet.

My mom kept ours in the north bay window

by NickNielsen In reply to i've never had that happe ...

She first got a clipping when I was in first or second grade and left the plant there on a table in the center of the bay. Other than occasional re-potting, that's where it stayed for the rest of my Mom's life.

When I left home at 20, that cactus was four feet across. :0 And Mom was giving clippings off it until the day before she died. :_|

Still there, as far as I know. My stepfather's been taking care of it.

a friend of mine gave this one to me after i was in the hospital 7 years ago...every time he calls, he always asks if i still have it and has it bloomed usually blooms about twice a year, once just before christmas and once around easter; sometimes i get lucky and it'll bloom once over the summer too...i tried to move it one time a few years ago but it "protested" so i put it back where it so needs to be repotted

As I recall, ABC didn't even notice our poverty...

I'm glad that I came up broke. Came into this life with nothing; can't take anything with me when I leave it.

I've learned to appreciate simple things.

by OnTheRopes In reply to Yuppers.

Things like heat. Water. A can of Campbells tomato soup. Saltine crackers with a milk jug full of atered down unsweetened Kool-Aid.
I still appreciate simple things. I'm not really very complicated.
Friends. I appreciate my friends. I still have TR's Christmas card propped up sitting here where I can look at it everyday. Weird, huh? Would you believe that except for one cup of coffee I've drank every coffee I've had at home from one of my TR mugs? I have all of my swag close at hand too. They're gifts, nothing asked for in return. I like gifts.
As you are so fond of saying, now that you know it bugs me, whatever. :^0
