NT-9x dual partition

By Rajneesh ·
I have Nt4.0 sp4 installed in a PII 450 . The Hdd is partioioned into C (500 MB, FAT) and D (3.8 GB NTFS). The NT system dir is on D drive .
I want to make this a dual boot with 95/98. Is this possible. The one tip pertaining to this tip requires 9x to b installed on D drive, which I cannot do as it is an NTFS drive.
Please Advise
Thanking in advance

Based on previous experience I would not try to install Win. 95/98 after a NT installation. Installing Windows 95/98 first should cause you no problems.

You would have to create a third partition for your Win98 installation. With BootManager from PowerQuest you can manage these three os's. There is also a utility so that you can view fat32 from NT. You can get this tool at www.nttools.com

Yes, you can do that.
First: make an emergancy HOT bootdisk for NT. Format a floppy under NT. Copy the following to the floppy: BOOT.INI, NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM, BOOTSECT.DOS

Second: install on the FAT Partition your Windows 9x. Make sure the FAT Partition is a Primary Boot partition & set it to Active. (Use FDISK, but becareful!)
After installing Win9x start the first step of installing NT 4 with the following command for bootfloppyless installation:
CDROM:\i386\winnt /b /x /s:CDROM:\i386
Make sure you have at least 128 MB of free space on the C: drive.
When the system reboots create a temporary install on the Drive under the dir NTTMP. Do not install to your current Windows NT directory unless you like to reinstall Windows NT completely. (Ifyou do then skip the remainder of this message)

When this is done check the Boot.ini file on the C: Drive and edit the Entries for NT with \NTTMP to the original NT install Dir by replacing nttmp with e.g. \WINNT. Reboot to NT. Now your orignial NT ins
