NT SECURITY (DIRECTORY & FILE)PERMISSION

By timt ·
Hi all:
Here is my dilema and I hope someone can help me to figure this out. I want to create a hiarchical directories structure that only allows users to READ&WRITE to the files, but not allows them to create new directories. I know Novell can do this, but not NT. Does anyone know any third party software that can provide this functionality under NT? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Tim.

NT SECURITY (DIRECTORY & FILE)PERMISSION

Not sure if it is what you need.
Here it goes.

1. Select the main folder that contains the sub-directories. Proerties-Securities-Permissions-In the "type of access drop down" select, "special directory access", check only "read" and "execute", and select "delete" if you want users to be able to delete sub-folders "without" files. Click ok.

2. Select the "type of access" again. This time select "special file access", check only "read", "write", and "execute". Click ok.

3. Check both "replace permissions on existing files" and "replace permissions on subdirectories" to apply to everything under that tree. Be a little careful with these two checks.

4. Now, user can write to an existing file, read the file, execute the program.5. The user cannot add a new file or directory.

Hope that helps.
