OK, how do I turn off RSS subscriptions
Lockedby rob miners · about 14 years, 4 months ago
I must have somehow turned it on and I can’t work out how to turn it off.
I would like to be able to change it back to only receiving subscription updates by e-mail.

From when Jacky?
by oh smeg · about 14 years, 4 months ago
In reply to Just checked
I got the regular TR Notifications around 11.00 PM last night.
Though the Site has been really flaky late last night and this morning. Could be something that has gone screwy for the time being.
Oh and I’m not getting any RSS Feeds so it must be something on your system. 😉

In reply to From when Jacky?
I haven’t had anything come through. I had a Blonde moment and thought that I had selected to receive updates by RSS. Maybe I didn’t change anything. Maybe I’m going screwy. LOL

Not sure but as of last night
by oh smeg · about 14 years, 4 months ago
In reply to Last three days
It’s business as usual from TR.
I haven’t got anything different when I checked incoming E-Mail this morning but that doesn’t mean a lot.
Perhaps you could drop Doug a line. 😉
Though for the past week or so I’ve been getting some really screwy URL’s on any Links that I save for Sonja. :0

In reply to Doug is more than likely
One day it will all come together or maybe it will just be Christmas.
But none the less if you experience something new it’s always a good idea to drop Doug a line just in case. Every time that I have dropped him a line he says it’s the first that he’s heard of it, this seems more common when there are existing problems on the site as some fixes may break what where previously unaffected things. I do know that Late Last night TR was Off Line for a while. Or maybe Doug is just a good company Man and refuses to acknowledge that the site has issues when they get reported. 😀
Not sure how long it was off as when the site went down I went to bed. I decided to finish a Dell repair this morning. Just a good old simple AVG issue where the owner had upgraded to the Trial Version of 9 and it failed to install so she reverted to the Free Version and promptly lost all network Connections.
A system restore and a GIG of Updates latter it’s working so I’m not complaining. 😉

In reply to Michael Jay
in your profile, go to edit profile, my newsletter subscriptions and at the bottom there is a link to RSS Alert Management Center.
That takes you to your RSS feeds, in there you can remove them one by one, do not see a way to remove all.

I wrote a script to go through and tick all of the boxes for me. It ticked the boxes but decided to keep going. I had to Ctrl+Alt+Del to end it in Taskmanager. I had all sorts of strange things happening for awhile. 😀
Have you been getting Updates?

Was it the 10th that we had the major downtime.

In reply to Yep
they fixed one thing while breaking the alerts, as complex as the site seems to be I would think that an easy thing to do.
Somewhere around here I think I saw Jason say something about a major revamp for next year perhaps that will tie all the loose ends and make everything work at the same time.

here either, also I would think that many programmers have worked on the site and the difficulty factor for a programmer new to TR would be huge, just figuring out what the previous programmer wrote and why.

a nightmare for someone to walk into this setup. There must be a few people working on the sites though. For the most part it is exceptable, it just seems like the small things, get upset frequently.
I did notice that the people search is working now. I don’t have to type in the username and TechRepublic into google anymore to find someone.

if you searched on just a few characters such as mic, you would get a huge list of all names starting with that string, now not so much.
Anyhoo, TR is a lotta fun and I even learn new stuff every time I am here, so even if the site is not 100% functional it is useful.

you would see that, the name is correct just the profile info is copied left to right in the columns.
Kassner is one of the greats, I always get tied up in his blogs because of the links, find myself reading tons of stuff. From Michael I do learn so much, and it is great the way he hangs out with the folks in the discussion, even more to learn there as well.
I met Kassner at the Gathering in Louisville and unfortunately he got called away before the end of the first day for some problem that needed his expertise.

In reply to That’s not bad, but try this one
it is broken, as in the past it would show all members.
Or they changed it so that members can safely hide so they cannot be found.
Or, it took so much server time to do the search thru the 1.6 million members that it was intentionally broken.

But what I love is when I’m not around for a few days I get more thumbs than when I’m here for the full week. I see something radically wrong with the Thumb Count that simply wasn’t at all obvious when we had Tech Points. :0

The notification emails have been handy for me lately with the site the way it is. It was just a coincidence that the site hiccuped when it did.
