Open Office: works great, any reason to use MS Office?

By robo_dev ·
I was skeptical at first, I have been using Open Office for a couple of months, and for me it works great, and, of course, the price is right.

Has anyone here used it a lot and found some horrible fatal flaw that sent them running back to MS Office?

For me the native PDF import/export feature is a huge advantage.

Years ago, I was working with some scientists

by robo_dev In reply to I figured out a long time ...

who were dumping digital instrumentation data directly into excel. I had to write macros to reduce the data, because they would want to import like 300,000 data points, which would make excel puke. Had to make the macro only accept every 10th data point, or something like that. Of course this was Excel running on Windows 3.1 :)

Once reduced, the graphs in Excel looked like the waveforms on the test equipment, which was kinda neat.

You can never have too much Data unless you are using Excel to Store it.

Well if OO is crashing so much

You should have a look at the Hardware or OS for problems I very much doubt that paying for M$ Office is going to improve anything for you other than to make your Hip Pocket much lighter.

OO may not be perfect but it's not common to fall over corrupting Files and if it's happening in OO is likely to happen in M$ Office as well. You seem to have a bigger problem than the Software you are using here.
