By kimliang ·
Hi,I'm first time to use this board, hope somebody can help me.My office got a 50pc to access my files server(DNS server).Other have 5 pc can access internet, those is windows xp professsion. My problem is when this 5 user want to save/open the files from the server it will slow.

Example 1:
The tcp/ip like this
IP : 192.168.0.186
subnet mask :255.255.255.0
Gateway :192.168.0.200 (ADSL modem router)
DNS :202.188.0.133 (ISP DNS)
DNS :202.188.1.5 (ISP DNS)

like this case, the user can access internet and open the files with server, but the problem is very slow (maximun 5min).

Example 2
The tcp/ip like this
IP :192.168.0.186
subnet mask :255.255.255.0
Gateway :192.168.0.200 (ADSL modem router)
DNS :192.168.0.1 (My Domain Server)

This kind of user can open the file very fast, but don't have internet access.

Does everyone know the solution to solve the problem.

Many thanks

Try this...

Example 1:
The tcp/ip like this
IP : 192.168.0.186
subnet mask :255.255.255.0
Gateway :192.168.0.200 (ADSL modem router)
DNS :202.188.0.133 (ISP DNS)
DNS :202.188.1.5 (ISP DNS)

like this case, the user can access internet and open the files with server, but the problem is very slow (maximun 5min).
In above example you define your ISP DNS as your default DNS. So your server get slow.

Example 2
The tcp/ip like this
IP :192.168.0.186
subnet mask :255.255.255.0
Gateway :192.168.0.200 (ADSL modem router)
DNS :192.168.0.1 (My Domain Server)
In above example your request is not going to external i.e. Internet, so they will not able to access Internet.

Solution Inshallah,

You have to define your ISP DNS in forward zone of your DNS server. And use example two. In this case your DNS will forward internal request to external i.e. Internet.

Best of Luck.
