OWA problems

I am using Exchange server 2003. I am able to access OWA from the indside of my domain using http://server_name/Exchange. However I cannot access from the outside. I have used Microsoft KB article Id: 301428 "Troubleshooting Outlook Web Access from an IIS Perspective". Everything in IIS is as it should be yet I don't even get the "loading" page. What I do get is the following, Background:
"The gateway could not retrieve the requested page". I could use some help!. In general my Exchange runs fine except for the access problem. Thank you

I am having pretty much the same problem you describe. Our users can logon to OWA while inside the network but when they attempt to do so at home they get "unable to open page" or some are getting to a logon screen but then get "access is denied" error message. Were you able to resolve your problem? If so, could you email me at with what you were able to do?

OWA Access problems

I found that my IP provider dropped the ball on their end. When attempting to ping my exchange I found it showed the wrong IP address in the providers records. I went to a T1 connection from DSL and received a new IP address which needed to be in the providers records but was not. Once the IP issue was resolved we were up and running.

Access problem resolved

Thanks for the info. I also resolved my problem so I am posting in case others see a similar problem.

Our problem turned out to be a problem with the running-config for our Cisco 3600 router. There was a power loss over the weekend that shut down that router. I had thought I had the running-config copied to the startup-config for that router but it was not there. Consequently when the router used the startup-config when it came back online port 80 was not being permitted for the Exchange server. Once I reconfigured the running-config to allow port 80 for that server everything started working again.

Access using external IP solved

I also experienced the same problem. thanks to you guys, now i know that it was the FIREWALL problem (port 80 & 443).

After i add this rules to my IPTables, the external IP works perfectly.

--dport 80 -j DNAT --to-destination $DMZ_MAIL_IP_THUNDERBIRD

--dport 443 -j DNAT --to-destination $DMZ_MAIL_IP_THUNDERBIRD
