PC turns on, no beep, no image

By Jambass ·
Hi,
Before anything I want to say that, yes, I searched for problem and I found people in a similar situation before posting this. And sorry for any language mistakes.

My problem is that my computer turns on but doesn't make any sound (it usually does)and shows no image. I already switched the battery, cleared CMOS, tried other RAM sticks on every slot, video card (basically the hardware in the pc i'm using to write this). Then you might say: "Ok then it's fried... buy another one." :) BUT it has a particularity... If I let it disconnected from electricity, say for 1/2 days, when I connect everything again the PC works like nothing ever happened. Then I put my Hiren's Boot CD to test it and IT PASSES IN EVERY TEST. The thing is that when I reboot, if not the first at the second time it fails again...

I'm frustrated! Please, any help?

EDIT: Sorry guys I forgot to mention one thing (Maybe a very important one). When it boots well this message appears: "Checksum error - Press F1 to continue" and pressing F1 everything runs smoothly. Is a corrupted BIOS the reason for the problem?

PROBLEM SOLVED

REASON: Motherboard overheating.
SOLUTION: I followed dpalsen suggestion and put a big fan next to the motherboard. Everything runs smoothly now!

Thanks for all replies!

That's only a temp fix and you found the souce of the problem

Remove the cover of the System. Remembering to ground yourself by placing the back of your hand on the Power Supply Unit and not moving your feet. By not taking this precaution it is possible that you could inadvertantly cause damage to the PC from an electrostatic discharge. Then remove the Heatsink, giving it a thorough clean with a cotton cloth. Remove, clean the top and reseat the CPU applying new CPU grease.
If the Fans spin freely when you give them a spin they are probably OK. If there is resistance replace them.

Heat

by dpalsen In reply to PC turns on, no beep, no ...

My suspicion would be a strong susceptibility to heat. I have a hard drive that dies off and on, and if I let it cool for a day or two, it will start working again. Sounds like much the same thing, but with the motherboard. Try taking the case off, and set a box fan next to it blowing on the motherboard. This will at least let you know if it's a heat issue.

Checked and it worked

by Jambass In reply to Heat

Oh God! It works! I put a big fan directed to the motherboard and that's it!

Thanks a lot!
