PC will not boot to Win XP login

By rleon271 ·
My current machine is self built. Here are the specs:
Motherboard: ASUS A6V Deluxe Socket 939
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 2.4 Ghz
Memory: 2GB DDR400 (Corsair)
Video Card: NVidia 6800GT 256MB AGP 8x
1st H Maxtor 40GB IDE Partioned 10GB each
2nd H Seagate 40GB IDE Partioned 10GB each
3rd H Seagate 300GB SATA
Optical Drive: Samnsung CD-RW
Optical Drive: Lite-On CD/DVD
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2

I recently reformatted both the Maxtor & Seagate 40GB drives, reinstalled WinXP, downloaded & installed all current drivers for the Video Card & all peripherals & everything was working fine up until last night. I rebooted the PC & am able to view the ASUS Bios startup & am able to get into the BIOS if I need to but it will not boot into Windows. All I'm getting is a black screen on the monitor. I've already switched out the 6800 GT Card with a FX5200 card thinking it was a problem with the card but I'm still getting the same result. I've also gone into the BIOS setup to change the boot order to CD & tried booting from the WinXP CD but I am still getting a black screen. I've also changed the monitor thinking it may be the monitor but still getting the same result. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong. Any help provided will be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Once the GPU POST's,

by ComputerCookie In reply to PC will not boot to Win X ...

the next thing to post is the MB, if both of these POST the next thing should be the boot sequence of the HDD.

One should be Primary and the other seconary or slave, swap the HDD's and see what happens.
