In case you all didn't notice, the photo attachment functionality is live.

It could take a while for your photo to appear due to how often we cache these pages, so please be patient.

Thanks,
sm

Correction - New Eagle

I guess you were refering to the "close-up" of the one sitting on the branch. That seemed rather fuzzy to me, so I found this new one. It appears to be from:

http://www.eagleacademy.info/

.....A school for 3, 4 and 5 year olds. Huh, maybe it's appropriate.

My "Funny Side"

by maxwell edison In reply to Max I really preferred th ...

.
I will admit that my "funny side" is often missed by a lot of people around here. A case in point would be my message outlining what "Jesus would drive" that was posted in another thread. That was a message in which I intended to be funny/clever, not even comment on the premise of the discussion, but someone didn't see it and started dissecting what I said. (And I even had the funky monkey with glasses at the time.)

However, I don't necessarily think it's me. I think it's them. People will read into something with some preconceived notions, and take out of it what they want. Or some people might ignore the true intent, even though it might be rather obvious, and intentionally deflect it to fit their own purpose. Or I might attempt humor that may be above some people's capacity to understand. I don't say that in an aloof sort of way, but using that same message as an example, it would, I suppose, require an understanding of word meanings that many people don't have. Some people have no idea about "The Phoenix" or what "Caprice" or "Corvette" really mean. If they don't know that, they'll miss the humor entirely.

Well, if that's the case, play to the audience, you might say. But considering this context, the audience literally covers all spectrums -- from the extremely intelligent to those who appear to be as dumb as dirt. From those with a wide grasp of the English language to someone who barely understands it. From a person who is extremely open minded and generally gives the benefit-of-the-doubt to someone who is so narrow minded that he could see through a keyhole with both eyes. And then if you throw in the fact that the "written word" is quite different from a personal delivery, without the advantage of tone and voice inflections, misunderstandings are inevitable.

Quite frankly, I think I'm one of the funniest guys around here. But like I said, it's hard to fly like an Eagle when you're cooped up with a bunch of turkeys. And you can take that however your "preconceived" notions dictate, unless, of course, you don't have any. In which case, I think you probably get it. But even in that message, I'm amazed thus far at some of the comments that show how many people just don't get it.

Just give me some time. I need to get home before I break out the digital camera. I can't wait to see the many faces of TR.

Smorty

I noticed that you can get the URL for the picture, in my case a sidepage on a site I use for client file transfers, will you be masking the URL's or eventually uploading them to your server?

Small PEGS shouldn't cause too many storage issues.

We hadn't planned on it

by sMoRTy71 In reply to Smorty

The idea was to have these images be completely user-hosted.

Part of it was for speed (and simplicity) of implementation and part of it was to avoid any "Imperial entanglements" that could arise from obscene or copyrighted materials being hosted by us.

I have my self-hosted photo plastered on about 10 sites and it doesn't even make a dent in my bandwidth. However, I'm not posting hundred of times a day either :)

Bandwidth isn't an issue

by Oz_Media In reply to We hadn't planned on it

Bancdwidth is no issue for me, my point was more about some of those displaying more malicious intent here from time to time.

It isn't rare to see hacker ads in Q&A or Discussions, and there have been some faily vengeful peers too.

Not a big deal really, I can always link to the photo at its origin if I chose to. I thought it would actually be faster to pull it from your own server as opposed to linked though?!

But it's not a big deal anyway.
