Pink Ribbon Part Deux

By Tig2 ·
All;

I was asked to post pictures. After spending most of a week sorting through the 2 Gig of photos that my partner took and the 3 or 4 that I managed to take, I have finally gotten them posted and accessible. To view, go to http://tinyurl.com/kylzf.

Incidentally, I'm the redhead...

Edited so that I don't look quite so moronic... Spell checker please!

Another question

by jdclyde In reply to Pink Ribbon Part Deux

During the day when the line would string out, did anyone ever calculate how long the line of walkers way? A mile? five miles? ten miles?

And did the sweepers only get you if you were in distress?

Next year, need a pic from higher up to show the long line of great people coming in!

did this get much news coverage in your area? I don't watch TV, so I wouldn't know if they talked about it or not.

Congrats again.

Some answers

by Tig2 In reply to Another question

We only got estimates so don't really know but it was believed that the line of walkers was about 5 miles. It was MUCH more solid on Day One. I know that while we were in Pit 2 on Day 2 and Jennifer's husband was trying to find us, we were there for about an hour and walkers were still coming in when we left. Same thing happened at lunch.

A sweep van would pick you up if you signaled them. They also would pull over if you appeared to be in distress. If you got too far back to make it to camp by 7:00 PM, you were swept regardless. On Day 2, I got back to camp at about 6:00.

News coverage was interesting. The media partner did relatively little coverage while another station mentioned the walk in every broadcast. I am hoping to form an alliance with a radio station here and hopefully get more advance coverage.

I had just climbed the place where I was standing. Believe me- it was pretty high. I had to sift through a lot of photos to get the ones I posted. I don't know that there was a better place to try to capture the line of walkers or not but I will be on the lookout next year.

I think that the media links that NB posted during the walk are still valid. I have a (short) DVD of the local coverage.

Good deal!

You just had to put in a picture of the couch, didn't you? Pollen count just peaked again.

Of course the couch had to be there

by Tig2 In reply to Good deal!

That is an important couch. Sorry about the pollen.

I didn't include the survivor in the wheelchair. I was just never able to get a good picture of her. I also didn't include our male survivor. Again, never got a good picture. The couch? The couch HAD to be there.

But I'm getting tired of the extra salt with lunch...

Edit: It gets me mostly because the last furniture item my Mom purchased was a couch...dang pollen!

I had no idea.

It is amazing how something so basic and utilitarian becomes so significant.

One of the things that got me about the couch was how it touched people. It was one of the stories about the walk that I will never forget. Just as I won't forget seeing it at the last cheering station- empty and waiting for the next walker that needed a rest.

It's been over 10 years, but as you may know, every time you think you're pretty much over something like that, another thing pops up to remind you. :)

Just have to get used to salty beer for the next few days, then I'll be fine until the next time...

Now I didn't realise that you where a Bush-fire Blonde so I'll have to be good or face your wrath and I don't want to get in the firing line there.

My mother is or was a Bush-fire Blonde so I know what a lovely gentle temper you don't have.

Now remember to grow your hair long enough to cover your ears before next year. :0
