PLEASE Help Stop the 1 .EDU Domain Name Restriction - Sign the petition

By jickfoo ·
Long ago someone had the bad idea to limit established Universities to only purchasing one domain name. When Universities want to change their domain name or branch out and add another they only have 1 year to convert at which point Educause will revoke their old domain name unless they get some sort of extension.

That means in 1 year every website, vpn hostname, mobile mail device, business card, and journal article needs to be replaced. Its something most Universities cannot do. Our fear is that this added busy work requires more staff which raises the already too high cost of education.

Educause has recognized this rule makes no sense and has proposed a change to Department of Commerce which would allow Universities to have 2 domains. This proposal has gone nowhere for 2 solid years.

We need your help undoing this wrong. Please sign the petition below. You don't need to put your real address. Please also help spread the word to others who might be sympathetic to our cause.
