Please Help - Wireless Network

By elisitasblog ·
Dear All,
I know there are many wireless router questions on this site and I apologise. I've read through most of them and none of them answer my questions.
I've purchased a new computer.
I have a Spirit SEP3040 Wireless router.
When I connect my ADSL modem to the router, I get a "wireless" connection on my computer but it doesn't actually connect to the internet. (I get a 'wireless' connection whenever I connect to the internet regardless)

I have Windows XP. When I click on
"View Wireless Networks" I get a screen that basically tells me
"Windows cannot configure this wireless connection". It tells me to go the Microsoft site.

I have a program called "Intel ProSet Wireless". That tells me that I'm connected to wireless (even when I'm not connected to a wireless connection --> when I'm physically plugged in).

When I unplug the internet cord and place it into the router, I get no more internet connection.

Basically, I'm lost and I need some guidance on how to proceed. I have no idea on how to make this work for me.

thank you,
