Printer drivers for Vista on W2K3 Server

By Sailing_Nut ·
I'm very much a newbie with W2K3 server. I just upgraded one of the machines
on my network to Windows Vista and now I can not get that workstation to
recognize the printers attached to my W2K3 server. It keeps on telling me
that the server does not have the right driver.

I have two questions on how to fix this problem. First off what it the
procedure for putting a Vista print driver on the server so that the client
can print?

Second, how do I load a driver that's bundled with Vista onto the server? (I
can't find a Vista download for my DeskJet 5550 on the HP site. It just says
that it's included in Vista.)

Thanks in advance!

64 bit driver

by bfinney In reply to Used a different solution

I actually added the 64 bit driver to the print server and vista 64 bit was able to load it from the server.
Thanks for your response.

How did you do it?

by Sailing_Nut In reply to 64 bit driver

If you don't mind letting me know how you got the driver loaded I'd appreciate it.

Also did you have an installer from the printer manufacturer?

HP states to just use the driver that comes as a part of Vista.

How I did it

by bfinney In reply to How did you do it?

I had a Dell 3100cn printer. I downloaded the 64 bit vista driver and then on the print server I went to manage print server then drivers and then add which will give you the option to pick 64 bit driver. Then it will let you browse to where the driver is at. Let me know if you need more information.
I havent tried setting any HP drivers yet. I can let you know if I figure that out.

it only started 2 month ago

by mkader In reply to How I did it

i had vista business installed on my network notebooks for more than 6 month now, but the same printer problem that you guys described had only started since 2 month only, so i am guessing its an update issue, maybe a security issue that concerned the printers. No clue.........
