Printing in a Networked Lab using Win '9

By donarms ·
I have a lab of computers running Win'98. They are set up as peer-to-peer. I have set up a few of the computers as print servers. I inherited a couple of printers (HP LaserJet 5M & Epson 900N) with network cards built in, but I don't know how to take advantage of them. I tried plugging them directly into a couple of ports in the hub, but they did not show up on the network. Is this as easy as I suspect? What am I missing?

Thanks,

Don Armstead

I agree with #5. Just remember that if you go with peer-to-peer and print sharing, the computer that the printer is physically attached to, needs to be on. Also it is probably best to share the printers to everyone using one password rather than using an access list.

Go to HP and get Jetadmin. Go to Epson and get their admin program and utilities, look here: http://support.epson.com/hardware/printer/inkjet/sc900n/index.html

You will have to assign IP addresses to each.

I still can't see the printers unless they are connected through a PC.
