Have a user that captures lpt1 to a printer queue on a novell server at a remote site. This user’s workstation is win98.Printing from a dos application. Will call this userA. Have a user at the remote site that also prints to this queue using a windows application. Will call userB. Both users are sending large print jobs. If userA sends the print job first, the job begins printing, userB sends a print job that starts printing before userA has completed. Sometimes userA jobs never prints or half of the page prints and stops. The printer is a lexmark s1625, using a jetdirect printserver. The data format on windows is raw.Any ideas???

Have both spool locally til job is done then send the pages on. It’s an option in the printer settings.

Have you set the job to print directly to the printer?

This could be where the problem lies. You need to allow the job to spool properly on the Novell Server which will then talk to the jetdirect card properly and not send too much information at one time.

By bypassing the server, you are sending to much information to the printer which can’t recover itself.

I suspose you could add more memory, but I would check the way that the job is being sent.

Theres something called as ‘Priority’ which can be set from 1 to 99 (default being 1). Check the printer properties from both the user machines, and make sure they have the same priority, so that UserB’s jobs dont keep UserA’s print Jobs from printing.
      Best of luck.

The dos program is sorting the data and printing as it runs. Anytime it pauses printing, the windows application can sneak in and overwrite its job. In the novell capture command on the dos computer, you can set a timeout and an autoendcap. try playing with these settings.

      A couple of options:

Lengthen the timeout in the capture command (the TI= paramter), especially if this is a search & print style report. you may need a value of 15 or more.

If there is a server that is local to UserA, create a queue on that server and program the jetDirect to service it as well as the remote queue.
