Problem with communication from computer

By amhiggs ·
Hello, my problem is my computer got shut down by accident with windows 98 up and my panasonic kx-p1124i printer open. The only thing that seems that happened was my printer keeps saying their is a time out error. I went and thought I'd increased mytimeout settings but so far it keeps saying the same thing. And it won't print my document. I'd appreciate all the help you can give me. I hope to hear from you soon.

Best Regards,
Mary Higgs

Problem with communication from computer

If the problem is Printer drivers and you are using the default Microsoft drivers (or those from the Panasonic disk for that matter), you could go to Programs/Accessories/System Tools. There is a routine there to check for changed or corrupted files. When running this, it will ask if you want to replace any file from the disk.

All of the other answers are very valid also.

Good Luck

Hi
1st thing is to confirm if their is no hardware problem. Do a print test in dos mode
(before entering windows)This can be done by pressing f8, then select command prompt only.
Do a Print screen. If something is printed(without garbage)This will mean no hardware problem. Next steps is to change printer driver by latest one and/or windows parallel port settings(either normal or ecp mode).
If these still don't work, try installing equivalent driver such as epson or ibm proprinter

Most of the above is right.
remove your printer port in windows and reboot your system.
sometimes the port driver is damage.

You are in luck, there are no new drivers. What little info Panasonic has is at http://www.panasonic.com/host/support/1124i.htm (this is an old dot matrix printer). Bottom line: remove parallel port and the printer in Settings->Printers. When Windowscomes back up, go back to Settings->Printers and install the Epson LQ 850. Hope this helps in the face of so many answers......

btw, a second article at Panasonic said to make sure your parallel port is set to standard mode (no EPP or ECP).
