Just to clear up any confusion in case you don’t understand the title line. This is a site for IT Professionals that work all day to combat thieves like yourself.

Why is it people that wouldn’t go into a store and steal a fifty cent candy bar will steal several hundreds of dollars of software? [i](note, ticket price, not valued at that much)[/i]

If you are unwilling to purchase the Windows product, go with Linux which is free. Save yourself from the life of a scumbag and turn your life around now.

Just finished the first week on a “day to day” contract. As in, I show up- day to day.

My hair hurts.

The contract could well go permanent which would be good. Problem is that I need new surgery- which I could work in to the deliverable scched- but with the new insurance, may need to start from scratch.

I need to start a new thread on the idiocy of insurance. It’s MY life they are playing with- why don’t I have a voice???

I hire programmers. My company sells software. Stealing software is wrong. That takes money out of our pockets, money that pays for my salary.

There are alternatives out there if you want free software – you can get Linux and Open Office.

The product key is what you are really being sold when you buy the software. If you lose the Windows CD and use someone else’s to reinstall, if you can reuse your original key, you are golden. Thats why OEM’s like Dell and HP/Compaq and so on will replace your OS CD for $10.

But I suspect you knew that.

For the record I never said James stole anything. You wanting a product key or a hack are soliticing people to steal for you.

As for hackers, my company does not hire them, though there are some who do. But the big difference is that they are hired to do a job – they have persmission to hack, and they are not keeping what they gain through hacking. Most hired hackers are hired not to steal software but to try to gain access to secured networks, in order to make them more secure.

Are you suggesting you want a product key to make the software more secure? Somehow I think if MS hired you to hack their software, they would give you some keys to play with.

Does anyone else suspect btw that James and lang are one in the same? The similarity in grammar and spellling, and the fact they are both posting from the same country is suspicious.

And im pretty sure that I wasnt ganged up on and Ive only been on TR since October. Even though my info states I have been a member since 2002, I just started posting to the site in October and I have been treated with courtesy and respect from day one. The same members who are “ganging up” on James are the ones who helped me when I joined. The difference is that I didn’t ask them to help me do something illegal nor did I try to insult them. (I figure I will start insulting them once they are more comfortable with me and I them. 😀 ).

As far a HAL is concerned, I have never had any dealings with him personally, all I know is he is respected by the members that I have dealt with and that is good enough for me.

We’ve been in the middle of an SAP implementation and I haven’t touched my Fedora box since September. I probably won’t get a chance until late March. I did find a nice 2″ ceramic penguin to put on top of it, but at the moment it’s just sucking electricity to keep the NIC LED on.

that sounds just like mine. I had an old T-she-ba here, that sounds the same. CDX 2100 or 2400, I’ll have to look under it again. I tried several versions (Distro’s) The main thing is memory! It will want lost of it. (remember to subtract the vidio from what you think might be available, -ouch) I actually got a lot of help and advice from Toshiba. They have a special section just for us Linuxers.
(I must be getting old, any other time I’m triping over it, now I can’t find it. it must be on the other terminal, sorry)
Anyway it can work. Kernal 2.2 through 2.4 should not be a problem (2.4 is still my favorite) Definatly not one of the Mandriva’s, I couldn’t get close to working. Red Hat’s Fedora Core 1.5 (not really first choice) through 2 (better, will work) And of SuSE. I got the SuSE 6.2 to work good (kernal 2.2) and also SuSE 7.3 worked good (kernal 2.4) I did have 1 major problem that seems to be related to the Toshiba NB’s -The sound card drivers. Every available one I found that was said to work, would KILL the NB whenever sound was called for. (I hadn’t wanted it for the sound anyway, so I just disabled it in the sys program, after that, no other problems) The NB management programs from Toshiba even work (good too) I did put the system Win98SE back on it, but for other compatability issues (not relateted to that NB)

Rest assured I’ve been unable to sleep properly ever since making that silly post and I feel suitably admonished.

Because I live in AU I can only answer for Microsoft in this country and they firmly believe that everyone should have a copy of Windows. If you can not afford one they prefer to give you product keys and allow you to install off a friends CD rather than have you think that you have a Pirate Copy. They honestly don’t care at all so they have a special Department set aside just for this.

So if you ring AU [b]1800639963[/b] and ask for a [b]Ms Pip Marlo[/b] she will be only too happy to help you with a solution to your current dilemma. And will insist on visiting you to give you a free complementary copy of Windows. As she obviously can not come from AU to do this she’ll arrange for her counterpart in your country to do the same. Sorry but I don’t know the Person to ring in your country so you’ll have to bite the bullet and ring AU for this very profitable free service offered by Microsoft to everyone who is unable to afford their products.

I hope that answers your question and solves your current problem.
