Promoting (Win2K3 server) ADC to Domain Controller

By asadisb ·
I have windows server 2003 running as domain controller and an Additional domain controller. Because of some abnormailty I have to restore my DC to a week old backup. The ADS and DNS are functiong normally. But a few objects like Domain controller Security policy and domain security policy are missing in administrative tools. For this reason, I want to make a fresh installation on my DC and this need to promote the ADC to DC role. If some one could share; the necessary steps require before and for the promotion of ADC to DC! Thank!!!

if you restored a DC from a week old backup, then it must replicate with the DC that is current.

if you restored from a backup and there is a problem with the restore like your missing admin tools on the restored DC, then you should review your backup and disaster plan.

you want to know the steps required before and for the promotion? ah, going to be critical here, if you don't know how to do that, then what are you doing trying to administer DCs?

you install the O/S. Join the server to the domain as a member server, then run dcpromo promote, to make the server a DC. It'll automatically replicate with other DCs in the domain to get the lastest AD.

Thanks budy; ofcourse dcpromo is gonna run to promote the ADC to DC. But i wanted to know that whether there are some precacutionary steps while promoting the ADC; like DC will replicate automatically or there are some commands to run on main DC before dis. And if after promoting ADC to DC; i put down the previous DC; the domain will function normally without any kind of error! Thanks again.
