Publishing Private Health Info

TechRepublic Member Oz_Media posted personal medical information about another member in a discussion forum - information he has no idea about its accuracy. Without a signed released and *massive* security controls, such releases of private medical information are illegal.

What do you think? Do you think people who release unconfirmed, privledged medical information about others to slander them in public discussion forums should be prosecuted? Should they simply have their posting privledges removed?

You seem to be the first one to take this post as it was intended - entertaining troll bait. It was wildly successful.

This is the second time I've done this, to show a prospective customer just how much traffic a discussion forum can generate. Last time I got 100 responses in 24 hours - and that was in a "moderated" discussion forum.

I'm curious to know how many other developers are building discussion software for a zillion different people. I can get SAP to talk to Access, and PHP to talk to Oracle - and not make a dime. But cusotmers are paying *obscene* amounts for custom-built discussion forum software.

The downside is that I don't think they're aware of just how much they open themselves up to liability. Releasing false medical info about someone is bad enough, but what if al Quaeda decides to use your BBS as a comm channel? You could find your whole business sucked up by Homeland Security.

By the Security/Intelligence services. They monitor all telephony across the country and in & out bound as well. Every phone call, fax transmission, e-mail hell everything is passed through a filter on some massive computer networks and if there are any "Flagged" words it is recorded and traced.

These things help the Government Agencies so keep it up!
