Reinstalling Windows

By info ·
Often there is a need to Reinstall a copy of Windows on a machine that is running a little wacky. Simply upgradeing keeps all the old junk in the registry and adds more. I want to know if there is a proceedure where by you can install a fresh copy of Windows and import all the Applications Links so that we do not have to re-install the application software like: Office, Symantec, Quickbooks etc...

Before you go through all of the trouble of a reinstall for the old wacky machine, why don't you try a simple program called Reg Clean. You may need to run it several times so that it can weed out all of the corrupt/not running/obsolete keys. You may also need to edit the registry to remove keys that it shows an attempt to remove several times. Save all of the backups. it will place them in the same folder. You can review the repairs by editing the file. To do this takes about 20 minutes in stead of hours of reloading the OS and then your programs.

I have had similar problems. I managed to solve some of them by booting from the cd, selecting to boot to dos with cd support and then running 'setup /nd' which backs up the old windows and installs a new copy with all the links still intact. Nice thing about it is that you can do an uninstall if it does not work.
Hope it helps you out!!
