Remove NetBEUI/Add TCP/IP

By taieena ·
Hello! I work for an independent computer consultant, and we recently ran into a problem on one of our network accounts.
The previous network admin for this account had originally installed NetBEUI as the default protocol because the people didn't need Internet access. However, with it being a medical clinic, some of the nurses needed to be able to research things over the Internet.
When my boss originally took over the account, he added TCP/IP and DHCP via the router. The network is a small peer-to-peer network of about 8 computers. My boss, being self-taught while I'm still going to school, was not sure if he could just remove the NetbEUI without it affecting the TCP/IP.
I asked my teachers about this, and the answer I receivedwas that removing NetBEUI should not affect TCP/IP at all. However, here comes the problem.
I uninstalled the NetBEUI protocol, but doing so took me off the network completely. I can't find anything in my research or textbooks that explains exactly _why_ this keeps happening.
I was wondering if anyone out there might have any other ideas that I could try?
