Restricted Access in Windows XP

By rrotzien ·
Somehow my admin account on my Gateway is restricted from accessing the Control Panel, Date/Time, Desktop properties, and a few other items. At one point I couldn't even access the Windows Task Manager but I found the Registry entry that Disabled that access and have corrected it. I have been unsuccessful in finding anything else anywhere - any one with an idea?

Tricky situation

by Toivo Talikka In reply to Restricted Access in Wind ...

Is this a standalone PC, or part of a domain? If you had another local administrator account for situations like this, you could fix the problem by using the alternative administrator login.

Have you scanned your PC for virus and spyware/malware? Do other people know your password? Sometimes there is a joker in the office who thinks it is funny to alter the settings on other people's PCs.

Restricted Access in Windows XP

by rrotzien In reply to Tricky situation

This is a stand alone computer that I use at home. I have scanned for spyware, malware, etc, etc. It is the computer my children use for internet so it is possible that it was caused when they were online. Beyond that I haven't a clue as to how to correct the situation.
