Rick Santorum's Google problem

By AV . ·
Tags: Off Topic
Rick Santorum is running for President of the US, but his Google search results leave a lot to be desired in a candidate. Just Google his name and you'll see what I mean. I sort of feel sorry for the guy.

Google will not remove those results either, saying that its up to Santorum to get the results removed. Thats not going to happen. I think he might have to live with this - forever. I guess the moral of this story is payback is a b*tch.

An example of left-wing mean spiritedness (and possible extortion attempt?)

by maxwell edison In reply to Rick Santorum's Google pr ...

Even though the political right is often painted as being hateful and mean spirited, I would challenge anyone to show, with specific quotes and examples, why the left doesn't deserve that distinction.

You just posted Exhibit-A in making a case for the hateful and mean spirited political left.

Not to mention something that sounds like an extortion attempt:

"He offered in 2010 to take the website down if Santorum donated US$5 million to Freedom to Marry, a group advocating legal recognition of same-sex marriages."

Maxwell they are Pollies

You can not expect anything better from any of them. They are all out for what they perceive to be in their own best interests and are not concerned about anyone else.

In Politics there are no Good Guys just Potential Politician's.

He's a left-wing, gay-rights activist.

Who just happens to be Pissed Off with the ramblings of a Polly.

Welcome to the Brave New World where once it appears on the net it must be true.

Unfortunately this if anything is going to get worse as all that will happen is that the Pollies will pull their heads in and not ever say anything controversial lest they Peeve Off someone who then does things like this to them.

Not good for Politics but then again I might add that Politicians are not good for Politics.

Controversial remarks

There's a difference between making controversial remarks regarding political issues, and remarks regarding subjects that in no way affect the one making the comments.

But the point here is

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Controversial remarks

If someone feels aggrieved by any comment that any Polly makes they have the ability to do the same or similar thing. Right at this point in time the Pollies have yet to cotton onto this but after it happens a few times the entire group of Pollies will change the way that they do things.

Currently it's bad enough that they can have things like this happen for comments made during interviews but the possibility arrises of any comment that they make resulting in this type of thing for any reason. Be that for making derogarty comments about anything from anyone. But sticking to just this one instance there remains the possibility that someone from the Gay Community did do this and that someone from the Rabid Christian Right may do it if they didn't hear what they wanted to hear like the comment that caused this entire thread to begin with.

When actions like that become common place and the cleaver peeved off people will do things hosted on different countries servers so that the Pollies will be unable to pass laws which prevent it happening as they can not legislate for other Sovereign Countries, the entire Body Politic will be the worse for it.

The above only suggests 2 different groups doing something similar but the reality is that any person or Group who feels aggrieved could do something similar which will effectively be there long after the person in question is no longer alive let alone active in politics.

Its payback for what he said

by AV . In reply to The creator of the Web si ...

All politics are hateful and mean-spirited anymore. Santorum dissed a whole group of people and they took revenge. ". . .The lewd "santorum" definition popped up after the former senator compared homosexuality to pedophilia and bestiality in a 2003 interview with The Associated Press . . ."

Google will not remove the results, but if you think about it, this kind of situation could happen to anyone. Santorum can't sue them for defamation of character and I don't think any of those reputation defending companies would be able to remedy his situation.

He is a lawyer and would have sued if he could, I'm sure, but this type of cyber-slander could happen to anyone. If you are the one being defamed, how can you fix it? He will have those search results forever.

I don't think what Santorum said was fair, but the response to it is all out war. Thats not fair either.

As a Libertarian Maxwell is right at home attacking the liberties of others

Isn't that what libertarian means? Someone who wants liberties for themselves, but not for others?

Most specially freedom of speech or expression - Maxwell wants that one all to himself.

Attack the content, not the person, please

by CharlieSpencer In reply to As a Libertarian Maxwell ...

Let's stick to the issues and opinions, not those expressing them. Would Max's position be any more or less valid if I had trotted it out, or AV, or santee?

No, that's not what libertarian means, and you know it.
