Tereza is about dive in to a new career ...

by rob In reply to Rob Marshall @ www.MyITFo ...

There's this girl, she just so fine she blows my mind. She's one of the best A/D admins and is a rare geek-girl that likes the finer things in life. How attractive and appealing these attributes are indeed.

Now she's thinking of giving up IT and doing something completely different for a few years. Such a bold step isn't it.

Well, she is thinking of taking a physio degree or working towards it over the coming years. Does anyone have friends that have taken this path and can they get in touch with me to help with advice for Tereza?

MP3 Player

by rob In reply to Rob Marshall @ www.MyITFo ...

Been a while since I had treat-money, and I was payrolled yesterday ... so here's my new toy:

Creative ZEN Touch 40GB

http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=213&subcategory=214&product=10274

40GB of storage, wow. I don't even have that much music on my HDD, but I can grow in to it ;-)

I was thinking of getting an I-Pod, but not impressed with their approach to locking the customer in to I-Tunes (have I got this wrong?) and only having a 20GB HDD. I see HMV are opening an online music store, and their prices seem better than I-Tunes so will probably sign up to them soon.

Also bought these just to wrap the whole package off:

Sony MDR-EX71SL Fontopia Headphones

http://ecoustics.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=893309

Every work day I sit on the train and hear the high notes of someones MP3 player, so I bought these earbud fones so no one can hear me and I get the best sound quality.

I'm well happy so far ;-) Stay Tuned

This post originally appeared on an external website

Zen and the misuse of ASCII

My Weekend ...

by rob In reply to Rob Marshall @ www.MyITFo ...

Another weekend of fun to blog out :/P>

This time, met up with a nice lady early evening and and we headed to Brighton to wrap up Saturday night.

We liked living the moment, and just turning up at places rather than planning things ahead. So, we just walked from one hotel to another until we found a good room for the night for £95 at the Belgrave. It overlooks the seafront, with a lovely view of the sea and nightlife passing by underneath us.

Then we walked about checking out the restaurants until we found one that took our fancy. Ended up at a small place tucked away off the main stretch of Brighton seafront, and had a seriously nice three course meal for £6.99. It started with an awesome Prawn cocktail of epic proportions, then a big main meal, finally wrapped up with several dollops of ice-cream and chocolate sauce! Yummy!

The wine was £15 with the entire meal coming in at £30, what a bargain! Then we headed to a nightclub called the Honey Club for some Funky\Hard house music and stayed till 3am. Our feet and ears where tingling so much when we came out, awesome, and we couldn't wait to get back to the hotel with was literally 400 yards away from the club. That wrapped up the Saturday night and Sunday we drove down to Chichester and Arundel, spent a few hours walking about, had a light picnic and came home.

Was nice, had a great time again just relaxing. Only took a good nights sleep to recover ;-)

This post originally appeared on an external website

London Transport Police

by rob In reply to Rob Marshall @ www.MyITFo ...

Yesterday was the wrap up of a pretty good week for me. Got some real satisfaction, closure, on several issues i'm dealing with at work.

Why the subject: London Transport Police?

Well I was stopped at Tower Hill for a bag search ... I'm 6" 1', white and generally harmless looking ;-) Not that by saying "i'm white" i expect some special treatment, but come on, let us be honest here. No whites have blown up buses and trains in the name of fundamentalism so far, not since the IRA where active a long long time ago. So, I could not for the life of me accept why they stopped me. Not as if i'm entering a concert, a festival, something where drink+hidden weapons could represent a danger. Instead I was getting ready to hit the tube to Victoria for my daily commute back home. I thought they would be stopping stereo-types that fit the mold of these nutters doing the bombings on the tube system. But obviously, they are seriously paranoid about anyone with a large bag going through the system, be they white, green or indigo. This is obviously a clear insight in to their current status of alertness regarding the bombings and how serious they are taking it. When I was released I did say good luck with your efforts and be safe. You have to feel sorry for these people working down there, never knowing if a loud boom is coming their way.

Anyways, my new music player has helped speed up my commute to and from work (no it doesn't fold space or teleport me around!). It helps me wind down, as I do the commute back in to the boondocks. Finished Homers Illiad and now on to his Oddyseus, but since getting this music player i've not felt like reading. So much on my plate at the moment the music relaxes me, and helps me process the days events and put other stuff in to perspective. All good stuff.

Work is hard and fast, yeh, just the way I like it. Lots of problems to deal with, problems are opportunities as they say ;-)

Craig Cerino blogged a good one, about if you enjoy things in life how you don't mind going that extra yard. As I don't have children yet, the most appealing thing about his words for me where his observation of how if you enjoy your work how easy it is to excel. I find that I give 110% as a matter of course. I've not had a job where I don't try to do more than is needed. But I know a lot of people that don't think that way. Not many people actually enjoy going that extra yard due to the effort it involves. I don't think people live a complete life unless they appreciate that life's trials and tribulations + effort = satisfaction and a contented mind.

Bing, another non-technical blog ;-)

This post originally appeared on an external website

Last week's womenintechnology networking event

by rob In reply to Rob Marshall @ www.MyITFo ...

Maggie Berry from womenintechnology.

Firstly let me say a big thank you from myself, my colleagues at womenintechnology and from my colleagues at McGregor Boyall to all of you that attended the womenintechnology networking event last Thursday.

It was great to see so many of you at our first networking event - over 200 of you turned up which was superb and the people I spoke definitely thought it was a worthwhile evening so thank you for your support. From the initial feedback we received on the night and subsequently on email, there's been a strong indication that you enjoyed being able to speak to other women working in the IT profession and that you're keen for a follow up event.

Sounds like a great success, awesome
