Router will not work.

By teha_global ·
My pc runs xp home sp3. Browser used is FireFox. My router is a D-Link, DSL-534T, ADSL2/2+. One other pc is connected for gaming and school. The problem is it worked fine one evening and when I started my pc the next morning the router does not work. We have not had any trouble with the router for months since we bought it. I have run all kinds of scans for virus, pc diagnostics and everything checks out fine. I have pushed default until I feel defaulted myself and it does not work. The power light is on, the status and adsl/link lights are off, my lan light is on and another lan light is on and that light is not connected to a pc at all. (I disconnected the other pc to work on this and that light is off) I am in Poland so this is a European router. Is there a command that will 'wake up' the router or cause default to work? I have backup data to recheck the router's webpage if I can get there. I have posted this in several forums and still no help. (The IT man that I bought it from simply says it doesn't work and wants to sell me another router.) I want to know WHY it doesn't work. Any help or advice is appreciated.

With all things being equal

All you should need do is unplug the unit leave for 15 seconds and plug back in. It sounds like the Router has been subject to a Power Spike which has scrambled it's inner workings. A power Down and restart may be all that is required here.

In addition to powering down the router and back up again....

It's entirely possible the router has failed. Hardware breaks for no apparent reason, sometimes through hardware failure, sometimes through power spikes, but nothing you would notice yourself. It's even possible for just one port of the hardware to go out. Try another port. If all else fails, replace it.

Thanks for your advice

I just learned that the router's cd was installed again and TP was chosen and ran and after that the router would not work. Yes, I am angry because my girlfriend's daughter is going to the best IT university in Poland and did this to get her laptop to connect. So it seems that the cd worked in conflict with the default in the router with whatever else has been done online. I still need your help. This router is open source.
