SAN Storage HD Issues

I'm seeking an answers on the below issues. I'm not looking to solutions on how to fix it but I looking for an explanation why the problem happen. I hope everyone from this forum could able to help on my million dollar questions.

Question 1
I've a file server connected to a SAN Storage. Most of the data is stored in SAN Storage HD. Some how the SAN Storage HD signature file changed and cause user unable to access the mountpoint. I would like to know at what Circumstances that the HD signature file will change?

Question 2
I've a file server connected to a SAN Storage. Suddenly the mount point connected to the SAN Storage changed to RAW format. At what circumstances will the SAN Storage HD changed to RAW format?

Test the HDD/s with their Makers Testing Utility

One or more of the Drives could be on it's way out. You can get a Link to the HD Makers Testing Utility from here

As for the second part of your Question this happens when things are not stopped before Dismounting and remounting. The Partition Tables get corrupted and become unreadable so the computers think that the HDD are actually Blank because the Partition Tables are unreadable.

Ask the manufacturer

SAN devices can be very complicated to configure and maintain. These questions that you raise might be better answered by the support team of the manufacturer.
