Saving a word or excel document as a .pd

By damionx ·
Having a small problem at my new job. Supervisor wants me to figure out if there are any programs or utilities, or even how to configure ms office 2k to save files both in their normal configuration and as an acrobat .pdf file without user intervention, as it is "to much work for our users to do manually!"

The feature you are refering to exist on the 4.5 full version of Adobe Acrobat, that will create the pdf.files without user intervention. The price is pretty expensive for only moderate use.

Acrobat has a command line switch that will batch convert any .doc (or whatever extension you setup) in a certain folder. You'd have to create a batch file to run the executeable, then delete the .doc file. Users would have to save to a network drive, but it'll work.

Say Hi to your boss. He's probably friends with my old boss.

Adombe files are usually created by "printing" to an Adobe file creator which sits in the printers folder.

Why not write a simple macro button in each application that first prints to the Adobe driver, and then launches the normal "save" function.

Cheers.

Converting to PDF is a print function rather than a save function. If you can automate create a macro) to force the printing of the 2000 file as a PostScript (ps) file to a particular location you can use Acrobat Distiller's Watched Folder option. The watched folder option (which I think from memory can watch up to 20 different folders) will automatically create pdfs from any ps files placed in the folder. This feature in documented on the Acrobat CD in one of the user guides in the Help folder. It might solve your boss's problem.
