SBS Server Internet Connection Configuration
LockedDear TechRepublic!
Ive always been a reader of this site… but here is an issue im having that some gurus may have some advice on so im posting it.
Scenario:
MS SBS Server (30 client WIN 2K machines) that did have 2 network adapters (one going to router (dynalink rta220 and one to network switch) was causing problems in us connecting to VPN. Was using ISA server aswell (and not sure if it still is). DHCP was running on the server and router. There were no DNS issues. What we did:
plugged router into switch and removed it from WAN network adapater. Server was then connected to the swtich also. Appropriate IP address changes were made to the router and server. This was because previously there were 2 IP ranges being used for LAN and WAN. 192.168.1.1 for WAN and 10.0.0.1 for LAN. We enabled DHCP on the router and removed from server.NOW:
The Internet is EXTREMELY SLOW! Like dialup split in half! There are also minor periodic outages with access to network file shares. The reason we removed the physical configuration with the network adapters was because VPN connectivity to a critical business application was not working.
Feedback and comments much appreciated.
