Security tools

Looking for some good security tools to defend, and also anti-security because my network is having quite a few problems with sniffers and port knockers and I'm trying to figure who it is and how to turn it on them.

Strike back

by tmcclure In reply to Security tools

I am not sure what level of knowledge you have in the area of secuirty. But here are some suggestions.

For reading I would check out a book called "Agressive Network Self-Defense" You mentioned "turn it on them" Also refered to "strike back" a growing but controversial practice. Not that I don't feel these guys/gals deserve it. They do. The book is not only educational, but is fun to read.

Another good source is Laura Chappell's website: www.packet-level.com/. Her free "Lab Kit" DVD is a good investment. You have to pay shipping costs. She specializes in packet level analysis.

If your inclined to tinker with software, SNORT is a good open source ID/IP system to learn and use.

Have fun and let me know how you do.
