Just would like to add my opinion. I guess today it is completely impossible to avoid using of different SEO techniques, if you want to promote and generate traffic on your growing website. This process includes various startegies and interesting methods like crowd marketing (when you make posts and links on forums), outreach and buying links, writing of guest post and sponsored blog posts etc. Anyway, your content and articles must be unique and interesting. Don't forget to use always plagiarism checker to verify your texts. (link removed by moderator)

Otherwise you risk to suffer from google's punishing algorithms. Pay attention to indexable and dofollow links, use good tools like Ahrefs and Semrush and you will succeed.

How does SEO work?

by soumyashrivastav166 In reply to SEO how it works ?

SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization, not to be confused with SEM or Search Engine Marketing which is usually associated with paid ads that appear at the top of Google’s search results or in the newsfeed (and to the right) on Facebook.

SEO primary purpose is to structure your site so it is easy to understand your site’s intent and primary market for Google & the other search engines when they “crawl” it, thereby achieving higher rankings & more exposure.

Before we get a little deeper, understand why a strong SEO strategy is so important to Google & will reward you with higher rankings if done correctly.

Google is just a website, just like Facebook, LinkedIn, etc… Their main source of revenue are the paid ads that generate billions. And Google has come up against serious competition for market share lately, especially from Facebook. So the integrity / quality of their search results needs to be extremely relevant & valuable to the searcher, or she/ he may go to another source for their requested information. If that happens, Google loses the opportunity than and maybe in the future of retaining a client that may click on a paid ad where they would than get paid by the advertiser.

There are actually 2 types of SEO… On-Page & Off-page

On-Page SEO consists of a series of tasks that helps Google understand who you are and what value your site will bring to a potential searcher. This would include:

A strong title tag that tells search engines who you are, typically 70 characters. For example: “Chicago | Near Me | DUI Attorney | Specializing in multiple offenses”
A strong description tag is typically what you see on the actual search results page and should be approximately 150 characters. For example: “Chicago’s finest team of DUI Attorney’s specializing in repeat offenders. Affordable rates & available 24 hours a day 651–456–7890… free consultation”
Recommended 2000 words of well written content on the front page using your root keywords (including your location) & variations of longtail keywords.
Have images with correct file names and alt tags, using keywords
Make sure you have a map of your location that is geo-tagged so Google will include you in local search (even if it’s not in the same town as the searcher)
URL’s should have keywords in them so Google understands the intent of the page
List services & locations served to give Google an exact idea of what you do & where
Many sure all pages/ blogs are categorized correctly so it is easy for Go
